FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville Parks Foundation is working to re-establish its nonprofit status, which was withdrawn following tax liability issues with the state.

Pending the submission and acceptance of 501(c)(3) tax-exemption paperwork by the Internal Revenue Service, the foundation will be back in business.

During the foundation’s Jan. 22 committee meeting, President Douglas Jones said the Texas Secretary of State’s Office already has reinstated the organization’s tax liability and its ability to conduct business.

Also during the meeting, the committee approved changes to its bylaws. Included among the changes are more specific job descriptions for each of the committee’s officers, along with revisions to verbiage related to conflicts of interest.

During the citizens input, several people present, including committee members, engaged in a lengthy discussion. Topics meandered between possible fund-raising ideas and establishment of recreational venues, such as a bowling alley and a water park. Jones said a recent Floresville Chamber of Commerce newsletter indicated that someone already is working to build a bowling alley within the city.Committee member Tomas Robles voiced concern over the limited involvement of city residents as it relates to creating additional activities.

“I feel that this city has a lot of potential, but we’re not maximizing our potential here,” he said.

In attendance: Committee members Douglas Jones, Michelle Talley, Tomas Robles, George Ramsdell, and Richard Halliburton Jr.; Floresville Parks Department Supervisor Alex Treviño, and City Manager Henrietta Turner.
