The Floresville Tigers, now 7-0 in district play, took on the Kennedy Rockets last Tuesday evening at home.

The Tigers started the game shooting well, averaging 21 points a quarter in the first half, while shooting 69 percent from the field, and went into the locker room at halftime with a 20-point lead, 42-22.

The Tigers continued to shoot well in the second half, but were plagued by turnovers in the third quarter. Floresville finished strong in the fourth, however, closing out the fourth quarter with a 22-point scoring effort to secure another district win. The final score was 87-58.

Three Tigers finished in double digits, including Estevan Mendiola with 24 points, Chris Albert with 18 points, and Zach Chambers with 11 points. Mendiola and Aaron Laskowski led the team with four assists each, and Albert and Jared Kotzur led the team with three steals apiece. Albert also finished with 7 rebounds.

On Friday evening, the Tigers traveled to play the Southside Cardinals -- a team that has struggled this season and had just a 1-5 district record prior to the game.

While the Cardinals won the tip, the Tigers controlled the tempo of the game and continued to shoot well throughout the first half. At the break, the Tigers were up 46-15.

Floresville came out of the locker room focused and continued putting pressure on the Cardinals to finish with another district win. The Tigers beat Southside 64-46.

Mendiola led the Tigers offensively with 19 points. Mason Ray added 13 points, and Albert finished with 12 points. Derek Moczygemba and Vernon Marsh played solid defense, coming up with three steals each.

The Tigers have completed the first round of district play with a 7-0 record. Floresville will go on the road this week to play the McCollum Cowboys, who are 6-1 in district play, on Tuesday, followed by the 5-2 Harlandale Indians on Friday night. Tipoff for both games will be at 6:30 p.m.

Come out and support the Tigers!
