Larned “Larry” E. Runnels II passed away on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the age of 83. He was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., to Larned E. and Josephine Mills Runnels.

Larry was a dedicated and loving spouse, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather who always gave his love freely to all. His devotion to God and to his family will always be cherished and remembered. Larry served in the U.S. Air Force for more than 22 years, serving in the Korean War as well as the Cold War as a flight engineer on the C-124 Globemaster II. He served with honor and distinction, receiving the Meritorious Service medal in keeping with the highest traditions of the Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia Pershing Runnels; and his son, Larned “Chip” E. Runnels III.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Celia M. Runnels; his sons, Michael B. Runnels, Joe F. Stone, Roger Stone, Roy Stone, and David Stone; daughters Gwyneth Lane, Jeanette Clay, and Kathleen Barger; 29 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 30, from 6-9 p.m. in the Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio, Texas.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. in the funeral chapel.

A graveside service will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Fairview Cemetery in Wilson County.

Memorial donations may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church Building Fund.
