Jake “J.W.” Rice, 86, of Stockdale, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014. He was born on Oct. 15, 1927, in Sutherland Springs to Jake and Lorene (Gorman) Rice.

J.W. worked for Schumberger Oil Services from 1951-70 in Victoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Lloyd Raymond Rice and Charles Gorman Rice.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia Rice; children Ernie Rice and wife Sharon, Garry Rice, Sharron Wesley and husband Ted, and Debbie Rice; grandchildren Ricky Wesley and wife Katie, Crystal Kidd and husband Rob, Joslin Lee and husband Ricky, Jake R. Rice and wife Raine, Austin Rice and wife Courtney, and Jacqueline “Jeep” Rice; great-grandchildren Nate, Tyler, and Dylan Kidd, Christopher, Jake, and Matt Ferguson, Ayden Lee, and Patrick Morales; sister Lois Baker and husband Jay E.; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral chapel, officiated by Brother Terry Smith.

Interment followed in the Sutherland Springs Cemetery in Wilson County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America; or We Care Haiti, 2530 W. Eldorado Parkway, No. 200, McKinney, TX 75070.
