Floresville North Elementary School held its annual Local Spelling Bee on Dec. 6, 2013. Students from first through fifth grades were eligible to compete in a classroom spelling bee to qualify for competition in the local competition.

Participants included:

•First-graders -- Chloe Zavala, Pablo Rivera, Madison Miller, Madelyn Bingham, Sofia Reveles, Matthew Moczygemba, and Coryn Felux

•Second-graders -- Robert Avila, Briyana Barajas, Abraham Sanchez, Lauren Pennell, Tiffany Gantz, Arianna Labrada, and Logan Benavides

•Third-graders -- James “J.J.” Reyes, Maci Chesser, Connor Felux, Lilyanna Lopez, and Andrew Alaniz

•Fourth-graders -- Alexander Perez, Chandler Kiolbassa, Allison Machado, Dareion Murphy, Preston Freeman, and Moses Rodriguez

•Fifth-graders -- Joshua Arocha, Miranda Uriegas, Sevin Martinez, Emilie Campos, Mason Melton, and Isabelle Rubio.

The overall winner of the Local Spelling Bee, fourth-grader Dareion Murphy, will advance to the regional spelling bee in the Trinity University Laurie Auditorium on Feb. 8. Winners at the regional competition will qualify to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C.
