Grand juries in Atascosa and Wilson counties have indicted a San Antonio couple for their alleged roles in a three-county rampage Dec. 8, 2013, that left a police officer dead.

The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced Jan. 29 that 32-year-old Shaun Ruiz Puente and 28-year-old Jenevieve Ramos each were indicted in Atascosa County on a charge of capital murder in connection with the shooting death of San Antonio Police Officer Robert Deckard. The pair also were charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer for allegedly firing at a second San Antonio officer. Police were pursuing the pair who matched the description of two suspects involved in an earlier robbery.

In Wilson County, Puente and Ramos each are charged with attempted capital murder. Moments after fleeing the San Antonio officers in Atascosa County, the pair encountered Poth Police Department Patrolman Roberto “R.J.” Sanchez Jr., and became involved in a shootout on U.S. 181 north of Poth.
