Richard “Dickey” M. Ramirez, a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at 11:46 p.m. in the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 67 years, 4 months, and 22 days. Dickey was born Sept. 2, 1946, in Wilson County, the son of Ramiro and Elena Muñoz Ramirez.

After graduation from Floresville High School, Dickey worked as a supervisor with Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio for more than 30 faithful years. Dickey married Aurora Estrada on March 16, 1968, in San Antonio. Dickey loved restoring antique cars and was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville. For the past nine years, Dickey’s pride and joy was his grandkids.

Dickey was preceded in death by his father, Ramiro Ramirez; his son, Richard Ramirez Jr.; and his brothers, Roy Ramirez, Robert Ramirez, and Rene Ramirez.

He is survived by his mother, Elena Ramirez; his loving wife of more than 45 years, Aurora Ramirez; his children, Roxanne Castillo and husband Marcos, Rebecca Escobedo and husband David, and Regina Ramirez and Michelle Tovar; his grandchildren, Mercedes Renae Castillo, Jordan Richard Escobedo, Isaak Angel Ramirez-Tovar, and Thomas Rene Escobedo; his brother, Raymond Ramirez and wife Adela; his sister, Rosella Ramirez; and his sisters-in-law, Helen Ramirez, Rachel Ramirez, and Diana Ramirez.

Visitation was held on Monday, Jan. 27, at 5 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, officiated by the Rev. Frank Kurzaj. Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Danny Rodriguez, Donald Collier Jr., Mario Tarin Jr., Frank Garcia, Lorenzo Estrada Jr., and Daniel Zurita Jr.
