This series profiles area organizations that help meet needs in our communities, and connects volunteers with good causes.

Organization: The Wilson County Soccer League

What it does: This organization provides the opportunity for any child to learn and play soccer for the fun of it. They host coaches’ clinics to help new coaches learn to train all age levels and have experienced coaches who have coached season after season. Kids can play as early as 3 years old -- Itty Bitty -- up to age 16.

The league serves Floresville, Karnes City, Stockdale, Poth, La Vernia, and surrounding communities. Registration fees begin at $45 to $65 per season; family discounts are offered.

All skill levels are welcome and the league promotes and encourages the love of soccer. All proceeds raised by the league go toward maintaining the organization’s goals and providing the best opportunity for kids to play recreational soccer.

The league’s board recently assisted La Vernia High School with establishing its soccer program.

High school students are encouraged to return to the league as coaches, referees, and commissioners; the league supports their endeavors to become leaders in our community. Parents are also welcome to help coach and support their players and the love of soccer.

Games are played at the Masonic Soccer Fields on S.H. 97 in Floresville.

How you can help: Volunteers are most needed and teens are warmly welcome to volunteer.

We encourage all former and current soccer players to contact us for opportunities to host an annual 3v3 soccer tournament to help fund their summer soccer leagues.
