Floresville sees four burglaries in just two days
FLORESVILLE -- Police here say they have had three reported burglaries in just two nights.
On Jan. 29, the owners of the Floresville Laser Car Wash on U.S. 181 reported that someone broke into a change machine and removed an unknown quantity of cash.
Then during the overnight hours between Jan. 30-31, someone broke into Mari’s Laundromat on U.S. 181 in the Plaza Shopping Center. Floresville police Detective George Ortiz said the burglars used a saw to cut into a change machine, subsequently removing its contents.
“On the sign by the door that says, ‘Thank you for your business,’ they crossed it out and put, ‘Thank you for the cash,’” Ortiz said.
Also during the overnight hours between Jan. 30-31, someone broke into Marta’s Mexican Restaurant at the corner of Third and Railroad streets. Ortiz said the suspect stole a 30-inch Sony Vizio flat-screen television.
Officials, however, have captured a suspect in an unrelated burglary that occurred Jan. 31. Franklin Rockford Hanner, 21, of La Vernia is charged with burglary of a habitation after being arrested in a home on Goliad Road in Floresville.
According to Investigator Stephen Moore of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Floresville police officers responded to the scene at approximately 9 a.m., after the resident called police to report that he was holding Hanner at gunpoint. This was after the man reported coming home to find the suspect in his home stealing biscuits, ham, and eggs.
Wilson County Jail records indicated that at press time Feb. 3, Hanner was being held on $10,000 bond, which was set by Wilson County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Sara Canady.
Anyone with information about the unsolved incidents is urged to contact the Floresville Police Department at 830-393-4055, or Crime Stoppers of Wilson County at 830-393-INFO (4636). In both cases, Ortiz said, callers may remain anonymous.
