Here’s to you, Floresville
By Carlos Rios
The eyes of Texas are upon you...
As I was walking down a street in the town of Floresville,
There was a lady staring at me as I went by, over her windowsill,
Maybe it was because I looked so happy or maybe a little silly.
It was on a Saturday morning and it was rather chilly,
There was no reason for me to be out in the cold; no, not really!
I just wanted to enjoy the cool breeze, that is all.
It reminded me of my days in Chicago during the early fall.
Everything was so colorful then, the shrubs and the trees,
The birds had begun to fly south, there were no butterflies or bees,
But here in Floresville, my adopted town, we have a much milder breeze.
And so it did not bother me at all, as we have much milder winters here.
To the local people, this little town seems so dear,
They try to keep the riff raff out, the burglars and the thieves.
I love this town, the friendly people, the rustling of the leaves.
We are not perfect, no one is, but there is no madness here, just small occasional pet peeves.
To total the whole thing up, we are really a happy crowd,
Happy for our little town; Floresville leaves us very proud!
Proud to live in such a peaceful and quiet little town,
Its citizens always seem to be smiling; they do not frown.
Queen Tunaep and King Reboog, be proud to wear your crown!
Here, we are able to enjoy life, and so, give us another round!
of applause, that is!
Carlos Rios, a 91-year-young resident of Floresville, attended art school in Chicago and worked there before moving to Dallas and retiring to Floresville.
