Floresville South Elementary School hosted its third annual school-wide spelling bee on Jan. 10 with three exciting competitions.
The kindergarten spelling bee had 12 participants, two classroom winners from each homeroom. The final kindergarten spelling champion was Ryan Holcombe from Carrie Ploch’s homeroom. He won by correctly spelling the word “owl.” The first- and second-grade spelling bee consisted of 13 classroom champions, with Ileana Hernandez from Daelah Laskowski’s homeroom named the overall and second-grade champion. The first-grade champion was Laret Quintanilla from Oralia Silva’s class.
The final spelling bee consisted of 19 classroom champions from grades 3-5. Congratulations to our school champion and fourth-grade champion, Connor Felux from Tarah Kozowyk’s homeroom. The third-grade champion was Hailey Ivey from Devon Hajek’s class, and the fifth-grade champion was Hillary Escobedo from Sara Garcia’s homeroom.
Connor will represent Floresville South Elementary School at the San Antonio Express-News 61st annual Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, Feb. 8, in Trinity University’s Laurie Auditorium. We wish Connor the best of luck!
