Urgent - Winter Weather Message

The Austin-San Antonio National Weather Service Forecast Office at 11:31 a.m. announced that the current Winter Weather Advisory has been extended until 4 p.m., as freezing drizzle continues across parts of South Central Texas.

Near or below freezing temperatures will be slow to warm this afternoon, allowing for light, freezing drizzle to continue. Accumulations are expected to be mainly on exposed surfaces -- including bridges and overpasses -- but are still likely to lead to travel problems. As temperatures slowly warm above freezing, drizzle will be liquid. In addition, precipitation will be ending during the afternoon, from west to east.

Affected counties include: Llano, Burnet, Williamson, Real, Kerr, Bandera, Gillespie, Kendall, Blanco, Hays, Travis, Bastrop, Lee, Uvalde, Medina, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Caldwell, Fayette, Frio, Atascosa, Wilson, Karnes, Gonzales, De Witt, and Lavaca -- including the cities of Llano, Burnet, Georgetown, Leakey, Kerrville, Bandera, Fredericksburg, Boerne, Blanco, San Marcos, Austin, Bastrop, Giddings, Uvalde, Hondo, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Seguin, Lockhart, La Grange, Pearsall, Pleasanton, Floresville, Karnes City, Gonzales, Cuero, and Hallettsville.

Main impact: Light ice accumulations of freezing drizzle on bridges, overpasses, and some surface-based roadways.

Other impacts: Cold afternoon temperatures.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
