1939-2014

Barbara Rae Sadler Bogert went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at the age of 75 after a long illness. She was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Barbara (“Bobbie” to her friends and family) was born on Jan. 9, 1939, in Bigfoot, Texas, to Edward and Mamie Sadler.

The family grew up on many different ranches as her father and brothers loved the rural lifestyle and were involved with cattle and horses from an early age. Her father was also an outstanding fiddle player who passed his love of music on to his children. She grew up singing with her father, sisters, and brothers, and later sang with the bluegrass group “Fiddle Grass Folks.” Music was an integral part of her life, and she composed and sang many original songs for her friends and family. In her middle age she bought a new guitar and learned to play it so she could write and sing in her own voice and music. There have been countless impromptu “jam” sessions at her home and her brothers’ and sisters’ homes over the years, with music ranging from gospel to bluegrass to old time country. To participate and view those gatherings has been and will continue to be a cherished memory for her family members.

She was active in the preschool education and reading development of her three sons and her grandchildren and took great pride in the strides they made as they grew to maturity. Grandma, or “Gaya” as her granddaughters called her, loved to read and encouraged her kids and grandkids to be excellent readers also. She was a proud Texan, and active in the Democratic Party. Barbara, Mom, Grandma, thanks for your influence in our lives and rest in blessed peace with Jesus, said her family.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Bogert; her sister, Rose Gaytan (Reuben); and brothers Leo Sadler (Jean), and Ernest “Jitter” Sadler.

She is survived by her brothers, Edward Sadler (Cora Mae) of Natalia and Kenneth Sadler of San Antonio; sisters Elizabeth “Lily” Ruston (Ernest) of Devine and Adele Neill (Leonard) of Somerset; sons William Bogert (Laura) of Hondo, Neal Bogert (Karyn) of Cleveland, Tenn., and Tracy Bogert (Rachel) of Somerset; grandchildren Casey Bogert (Syrice) of Fort Worth, Cody Bogert of Burleson, Melody “Rina” Chong of Chicago, and Serenity Bogert of Somerset; and one great-grandchild, William Lochlin Bogert of Fort Worth.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Feb. 8.
