Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1939-2014

Lawrence “Larry” Wayne Formolo, 74, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, in his home in Smiley, Texas. He was born Nov. 12, 1939, in Hazelton, Pa., to Albert and Marie (Smoyer) Formolo.

He proudly served his country during 18 years of military service; and he served as a peace officer for 20 years as a deputy in Gonzales and Hays counties. Larry loved rebuilding hot rods and won the Most Beautiful Baby at the 1940 World’s Fair in New York.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leonard Formolo and Albert Formolo; and a great-grandson, Sean Serth.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Jeanette (Laging) Formolo of Smiley; children Larry Formolo Jr. of Smiley, Bill Formolo and wife Valarie of Yoakum, Mary Kash of Smiley, Angie Formolo of Smiley, Natalie Sassenhagen and husband Darrin of New Braunfels, Priscilla Formolo-Salinas of Smiley, and Anselmo Formolo of San Marcos; his grandchildren, Christina Formolo and Sam Formolo of Corpus Christi, Victoria Formolo and Neal Formolo of Yoakum, Cory Kash, Lauren Ceaser, and Justin Ceaser of Smiley, Libbi Sassenhagen, Graci Sassenhagen, and Kylie Sassenhagen of New Braunfels, and Gianna Salinas of Smiley; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Formolo and wife Kathy and Jimmy Formolo and wife Bridgett, all of New Jersey; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, with the Rev. Kenneth Clapp officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Ste. 420, Rockville, MD 20850.
