Royce O’neal, 80, of Smiley, Texas, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, in Gonzales. He was born March 21, 1933, in Gonzales County to Phillip Harrison and Lula Mae (Caraway) O’neal. Royce was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha (Gibson) O’neal; one brother; five sisters; and his son, Gary O’neal.

He is survived by his daughter, Arlene Banks and husband David of Brownwood; his grandchildren, Larry Bishop of New Braunfels, Robin Morris of Bangs, David Banks II of Brownwood, Brian O’neal of Quitman, Erica Cherry of Quitman, Brandi Elmore of Grand Saline, and Pete O’neal of Quitman; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Feb. 6, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

A funeral service was held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral chapel, officiated by the Rev. Michael Cowey.

Interment followed in the Caraway Cemetery near Nixon.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
