Floresville mother dies in drunk-driving crash
A mother of five from Saspamco is dead following a Feb. 2 crash near the corner of South Presa Street and Natchez Trail in San Antonio. Pronounced dead at the scene was 30-year-old Teresa Arocha of Floresville. According to her obituary (page 13A), she leaves behind five children.
Charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with the crash is 25-year-old Armando Cruz of Saspamco.
According to the preliminary crash report by the San Antonio Police Department, Cruz was driving southbound on South Presa Street at 2:28 a.m. in a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when Cruz lost control before striking a raised concrete median and crossing the northbound lanes of the roadway. The sport-utility vehicle rolled several times before it came to rest upright in a grove of trees.
Arocha, a passenger in the vehicle, was not wearing a seat belt. She was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at 3:01 a.m. and her body was taken to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police transported Cruz to University Hospital in San Antonio for evaluation. He subsequently was arrested and charged, before being transported to the Bexar County Jail. Records indicate he is being held on $50,000 bond awaiting indictment.
