Edward Richmond Homeyer, retired U.S. Army sergeant first class, 41, of Manitou Springs, Colo., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014. He was born on Sept. 29, 1972, in Santa Paula, Calif., to Reese and Bethany (Mann) Homeyer.

Edward was a member of the elite Special Forces Group, a Green Beret, assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Fort Carson, Colo., as an SF Engineer Sergeant. He ended his Army career as an instructor at the Special Forces Sniper Course (SFSC), assigned to the 1st Special Warfare Training Group at Fort Bragg, N.C., where he distinguished himself by finishing in first place in the 2010 international sniper competition. Edward’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal (with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters), Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, Special Operations Diver Badge, German Armed Forces Parachutist Badge (Bronze), Belgian Armed Forces Parachutist Badge, and the Royal Netherlands Army Parachutist Badge.

Edward was preceded in death by his grandparents, E.R. and Dora Homeyer and Arthur and Regina Mann; and brother Michael A. Homeyer.

He is survived by his parents; sister Tammie Shelton and husband Tracy; brothers Reese Homeyer Jr. and wife Kathryn, Cary Homeyer and wife Gwen, and Jeffrey Homeyer and wife Tina; grandmother Dorothy Myracle; close family friend Crystal Hardy and husband Bill; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many loving friends.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. in the Faith Lutheran Church in Beeville, with the Rev. Robert Palan to officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s name to the Wounded Warriors Organization; or to a charity of one’s choice.
