Offer condolences


Celestino Marroquin Sr., a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at 4:37 p.m. in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, at the age of 89 years, 8 months, and 19 days. Celestino was born May 20, 1924, at Picosa Ranch in Fairview, the son of Antonia Flores and Eugene Marroquin Sr.

He attended Fairview School and faithfully worked with the Dickey-Clay Pipe Company in Saspamco for 29 years. Celestino married Antonia Flores on Sept. 21, 1951, in Floresville. Antonia, Celestino’s beloved wife of more than 51 years, preceded him in death on May 10, 2004. Celestino enjoyed working with horses in stalls for many years, and was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Antonia Marroquin; his sons, David Flores Marroquin and Roy Marroquin Sr.; his brothers, Steven Marroquin, Rudy Marroquin, and Feliciano Marroquin; his sister, Mary Sosa; his brother-in-law, Frank Gutado; and his stepdaughter, Salome “Sally” Nieto Rivas.

Celestino is survived by his sons, Celestino F. Marroquin Jr. and wife Sylvia and Arturo F. Marroquin and wife Santa, all of Floresville; his stepson, Victor Flores Nieto and wife Sara of San Antonio; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews; his siblings, Martha Trinidad, Vicenta Marroquin, Rafaela Gutado, Elvira Vara, Eugene Marroquin Jr., and Antonio Marroquin; his daughter-in-law, Ageda Marroquin; and his stepson-in-law, Edward Rivas.

Visitation was held on Monday, Feb. 10, at 5 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, officiated by the Rev. Frank Kurzaj. Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Juan Hinojosa Jr., Ruben Ortiz II, Joseph Ortiz, Celestino Marroquin III, Benjamin Cerna, and Ruben Ortiz Sr.
