Frank Syma Jr., 85, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014. He was born in Yorktown, Texas, to Frances (Danysh) and Frank Syma Sr. on Oct. 3, 1928.

Frank honorably served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the Berlin Airlift. After his time in the service, Frank went on to be a cattle rancher, a painting contractor, and a land developer. He took great pride in being a consultant for the historical renovation of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Cestohowa, the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Panna Maria, Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown, the Karnes County Courthouse, and numerous construction projects throughout San Antonio.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Bruno, Irene, Joe, Sabie, Severin, Frances, and Robert.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Louise Syma; children Rachel Sturm and husband Alvin, Russell Syma Sr., Rebecca Syma, Reyne Syma Foley and husband Jerry, and Rory Syma; grandchildren Frank Herman, Mariel, and Joseph Sturm, Russell, Matthew, and Melanie Syma, Ryan and Reed Shaffer, and Cody and Spencer Foley; great-grandchildren Kevin, Blake, Ethan, Emma, Allyssa, Grace, and Nathan; sisters Maurine Thomason and Lucille Pitre; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the church, with the Rev. Bill Zadora to officiate.

Interment will follow in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery in St. Hedwig.

Memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, P.O. Box 100, St. Hedwig, TX 78152.
