FALLS CITY -- The dream of another state tournament appearance has come to an end for the Falls City Beaverette basketball team.
Falls City put together another great season. The girls won a district title, area championship, and region quarterfinal game, but then fell to Harper in the region semifinals, ending the team’s year.
The Beaverettes took on Shiner in the quarterfinals last Monday, and secured a dominating 53-37 victory. Falls City lit up its opponent in the first half, outscoring Shiner 16-4 in the first period, and 21-13 in the second to take a 37-17 lead into halftime.
Falls City continued to maintain the advantage in the third, outscoring Shiner 10-8 in the third period and holding a 22-point lead with just eight minutes to go. Shiner dropped in 12 in the fourth while holding Falls City to just 6 points, but was never really in the game. As the final buzzer sounded, it was the Beaverettes with a resounding 53-37 victory.
The win sent the Beaverettes to the region tournament in New Braunfels, but Falls City ran into a major force in Harper. Harper outscored Falls City 11-6 in the first period and 15-10 in the second, giving the Lady Longhorns a 26-16 lead at halftime.
Falls City came thundering back in the third period, though, outscoring Harper 14-7, making it a 33-30 game with eight minutes to play. Both teams turned things up in the fourth period, but Harper managed to stay ahead of Falls City, outscoring the Beaverettes 19-15, and securing a 52-45 win.
Haleigh Blocker led the Beaverettes with 15 points, and Hannah Lyssy knocked down another 10.
Falls City ended the season with an overall record of 27-5. The Beaverettes are the District 30-1A-I champs, won an area championship, and are Region IV semifinalists.
