Help Wanted

Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Michael “Mikey” Gawlik, 57, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was born on June 7, 1956, to Roman and Irma (Urbanczyk) Gawlik.

Mikey was a free spirit who was loved by all and cared for all. He demonstrated this by his dedication to his father in providing full-time care for eight years while he suffered with Alzheimer’s disease.

Michael is survived by his siblings, Larry Gawlik and wife Marlene, Linda Ondrusek and husband Bob, Edward Gawlik and wife Suzanne, Dennis Gawlik, Debbie Garcia, Mark Gawlik and wife Katy, and Karen Lauderdale and husband Tom; special friends Larry and Joanna Kinard; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Panna Maria, with the Rev. Wieslaw Iwaniec to officiate.

Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery in Panna Maria.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011 or alz.org.

Back in the day I worked with Mikey as a union stagehand.he was a good guy and very hard worker.my condolences to his family from myself and my dad Harry Ohnesorge.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Roman and Irma Gawlik family. Michael was a very caring and thoughtful cousin who took such good care of his dad. We will remember him always. Jackie(Moy) and Ross Moczygemba
