Michael “Mikey” Gawlik, 57, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was born on June 7, 1956, to Roman and Irma (Urbanczyk) Gawlik.

Mikey was a free spirit who was loved by all and cared for all. He demonstrated this by his dedication to his father in providing full-time care for eight years while he suffered with Alzheimer’s disease.

Michael is survived by his siblings, Larry Gawlik and wife Marlene, Linda Ondrusek and husband Bob, Edward Gawlik and wife Suzanne, Dennis Gawlik, Debbie Garcia, Mark Gawlik and wife Katy, and Karen Lauderdale and husband Tom; special friends Larry and Joanna Kinard; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Panna Maria, with the Rev. Wieslaw Iwaniec to officiate.

Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery in Panna Maria.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011 or alz.org.

Back in the day I worked with Mikey as a union stagehand.he was a good guy and very hard worker.my condolences to his family from myself and my dad Harry Ohnesorge.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Roman and Irma Gawlik family. Michael was a very caring and thoughtful cousin who took such good care of his dad. We will remember him always. Jackie(Moy) and Ross Moczygemba
