Join pot legalization town hall event
Area residents are invited to join a town hall event Thursday, March 6, regarding the fight to legalize marijuana in Texas. The event will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. on the Texas A&M-San Antonio Brooks City-Base campus.
The matter is about to take center stage in Texas, according to the Marijuana Policy Project, which plans to hire lobbyists in March to bring a campaign to the Lone Star State.
News 4 San Antonio will bring together a number of experts for this event. Panelists include:
•Jennifer Sharpe Potter, PhD, MPH, assistant dean for Research & Student Programs at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, who will begin clinical trials soon to work with people trying to conquer addiction to marijuana.
•Rob Kampia, co-founder and executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project, the primary supporter of the ballot initiative to make marijuana legal for adults and regulate the marijuana market in Colorado in 2012.
•Robert Ashford, president, Eagle Peer Recovery, who wants the conversation to include that access to treatment be a priority, and access to long-term recovery resources be in place before a conversation begins about legalizing another drug that has proven to be addictive.
•Dr. Bud Holcomb, an Austin psychiatrist who deals with drug addiction; he spoke recently before the Texas Medical Association, in attempts to gain support for a push to legalize marijuana in Texas.
