The American Legion Post 539 in St. Hedwig invites students from the La Vernia and East Central independent school districts to apply for its annual scholarship, which will be awarded to one student from each district. Applications may be obtained from each respective school’s counselor. The deadline is Thursday, March 20.

Additionally, Post 539 will provide an opportunity for one young man from East Central and La Vernia to attend Boys State held in Austin over the summer. At Boys State, participants will learn the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county, and state governments.

Potential candidates will interview at the American Legion Post in St. Hedwig, where one candidate and alternate will be chosen from each school.

Interested participants may contact their school counselor (JROTC instructor at East Central) for an application and specific information to include format and due date. For more information, visit
