The Stockdale Blue Bonnet Club met March 10 in the home of Gina Deason. Refreshments were served by the hostess upon the arrival of members for the regular meeting.

The meeting was called to order by President Bernice Person. The minutes of the February meeting were read and the treasurer’s report was given by Secretary-Treasurer Mildred Kallies. The roll call was conducted by the secretary.

Gina Deason announced Kaitlynn Shaver will be given a “big” sendoff March 13 at Stockdale High School on her way to Corpus Christi to participate in the state powerlifting meet. The club wishes Kaitlynn good luck!

The Stockdale Independent School District will sponsor Helping Other People Everywhere (HOPE) Friday, May 23. The proceeds will go to the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes. The club will present a monetary donation from the event.

Committee reports were given by the chairpersons. Billie Jo Wolff, nursing home bingo, will take prizes for the April 26 games for the club. Sharon West presented ideas to choose from for the community project. The card committee reported sending 18 cards in February. The April hostess will be Mary Denson with Charlin Akin serving as program leader. The April nursing home visitor will be Billie Jo Wolff.

Program Leader Sue McLelland presented a program on “March is a Month

of National Days and Interesting Facts.”

National Peanut Butter Lovers Day is always on March 1 and salutes America’s favorite sandwich spread. Peanut butter is 90 percent or more peanuts. As it has no artificial preservatives, an opened jar can be stored on a shelf at room temperature.

If you do not get enough peanut butter on March 1, April 2 is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day and Sept. 13 is National Peanut Day.

Middle Name Pride Day is always celebrated on March 10 and honors the seldom-used middle name that often sets you apart from others. The middle name was selected with care, so we should be proud of it. It often was selected to honor a friend or relative.

Plant a Flower Day is always March 12. Gardening is a great hobby and is enjoyed by millions of people old and young alike.

St. Patrick’s Day is usually March 17 and celebrates a Christian saint named Patrick. He was a missionary who helped bring Christianity to Ireland and is the patron saint of Ireland. It is named the “Friendliest Day of the Year” by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The program concluded with McLelland presenting chocolate-peanut butter candy, a flower pen, a green shamrock pin to wear on St. Patrick’s Day, and potted flowers for everyone present so they can observe “Plant a Flower Day.”

In attendance for the meeting were Edith Akin, Judy Childress, Gina Deason, Helen Deason, Mary Denson, Mildred Kallies, Sandy Lynn, Sue McLelland, Bernice Person, Pat Rutland, Sharon West, and Billie Jo Wolff.
