Wilson County residents throughout the day March 19 have reported smelling smoke and seeing haze throughout the area.

According to Edwin Baker, coordinator of the Wilson County Health and Public Safety Office, the source of the smoke and haze is fires burning near Fort Hood. An article on the Killeen Daily Herald website indicates that two blazes touched off there yesterday. One of the fires, which burned 200 acres at a training range, was 90 percent contained as of 1:03 p.m.
