Charles A. Macha, 96, peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born Nov. 2, 1917, in McKees Rocks, Pa., to Charles J. and Julia Macha.

Charles served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Grand Squares and Camping Squares. Charles was a caller and cuer in the San Antonio area from 1954 till he retired from cueing in 2009. He was involved with aviation from 1938 until he retired in 1987 from Nayak Aviation at the age of 87. Charles built several airplanes and museum-quality airplane models. He received the FAA General Aviation Mechanic of the Year Award in 1972 and was a certified FAA inspector and instructor. He was also a proud member of the Sons of Hermann.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie (Fuchs) Macha; and his brother, Harold Macha.

Charles is survived by his loving daughter, Janet Abell and husband Phil; grandsons Casey Abell and wife Staci, Trevor Abell and wife Lauri ann, and Drew Abell and wife Marianne; great-grandchildren Lucas, Wesley, Evan, Juliette, Amelia, and Everett; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was held Sunday, March 23, from 5-7 p.m. in the Porter Loring Mortuary North in San Antonio.

A funeral service was held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Cross Mausoleum Chapel in San Antonio.
