The Floresville Economic Development Corp. (FEDC) will contract with San Antonio-based traffic-engineering firm AC Group, LLC to conduct traffic counts at various locations throughout the city. The FEDC’s board voted unanimously to approve the plan, at a cost not to exceed $3,500, at its March 17 meeting.
The survey was set to be conducted during the week of March 17-21, said FEDC Executive Director Tommy Baker. The data will be used in marketing Floresville to those wishing to locate retail stores and restaurants in the city. Equipment was to be used for monitoring the 24-hour vehicle count at the following locations on U.S. 181:
•A quarter-mile north of the Walmart Supercenter
•In front of McDonald’s
•In front of Floresville High School
•In front of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.
Counts also were set to be performed on S.H. 97 East and on S.H. 97 West in front of the former Wilson Memorial Hospital. Additional counts were approved for U.S. 181 Business at locations just south of C.R. 130 and near the Wilson County Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Also during the meeting, the board reviewed the FEDC’s sales-tax allocations for the current fiscal year. February’s payment from the state, which accounts for purchases made in December, set a single-month record at $81,618 -- almost 20 percent higher than the same period last year.
In the first five months of the 2013-14 fiscal year, the FEDC reports collecting a total of $326,340, an increase of 14.24 percent over the prior year.
In other business, the board, when it reconvened from closed session, voted to:
•Allow Baker to continue negotiating with Roger Wells for the purchase of a property located at the corner of Paloma and Veterans drives in the Veterans Business Park, where Wells intends to construct an 8,800-square-foot office building.
•Grant an extension of up to May 1 for the start of construction of a bowling alley at 108 Lone Oak Drive in the Lone Oak Business Park, located off U.S. 181 near Angelica’s Mexican Restaurant. The property’s owners, Eric and Lisa Rodriguez, will be asked to present a site plan and specifications at the FEDC’s April 14 board meeting.
Also in attendance: Board members Andy Eubanks, Mary Helen Tieken, Jason Talley, David Johns, Roland Castro, Raymond “Ram” Ramirez, and Ray Lamberth; Floresville City Manager Henrietta Turner.
