FLORESVILLE -- Officials here have taken the first step toward fixing the 80,000-gallon Plaza above-ground water storage tank on U.S. 181 behind Ancira Ford. The Floresville City Council voted at its March 19 special meeting to approve a professional services agreement with M&S Engineering, which will devise a plan that includes building an adjacent tower that will be utilized while the current one is repaired.

M&S representative Tom Turk said the firm will return to the council to seek award of a contract for a firm to perform the work. The project has an overall budget of $156,000.

Also during the meeting, the council:

•Appointed Fred Gonzales and Raymond “Ram” Ramirez to serve as citizen representatives of its audit committee. Councilman Johnny Ray Nieto will represent the council.

•Voted to allow the city manager to enter into a professional agreement with an employment agency to hire an interim comptroller, at a budget not to exceed $25,000

•Approved a budget amendment to fund repairs to 10 city streets (See “City’s worst streets may get rehab,” March 12.)

•Discussed devising a policy related to the use and permitting of 8-liner gaming machines.

Also in attendance: Mayor Diana Garza and councilmen Mario Morones, John W. Guerrero, and Eric Rodriguez; City Attorney Louis T. Rosenberg, Interim City Secretary Monica Cordova, Project Manager Andrew Barrientes, Streets Supervisor Juan Perez, Lt. Chad Clark of the Floresville Police Department, and Floresville City Manager Henrietta Turner.

Nope, $25,000 a year is roughly $13 an hour BEFORE taxes. Really not much when compared to other jobs around the area.
