On Friday at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, NASCAR unveiled its latest version of the Air Titan track drying system, dubbed Air Titan 2.0. This newest version of the Air Titan is more compact and more environmentally friendly than its predecessor. The original Air Titan was introduced in Feb. 2013 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

“The first phase of the Air Titan system has been an overwhelming success,” NASCAR Vice President of Innovation and Racing Development Gene Stefanyshyn said. “Based on our experience and learning, the staff at the NASCAR R&D Center has worked tirelessly to develop Air Titan 2.0. We will continue to innovate and develop the technology to further increase its efficiency and sustainability.”

Air Titan 2.0 is a self-contained single unit that sits in the bed of a truck, unlike the first generation Air Titan that required support vehicles. Although smaller, according to an announcement by NASCAR, the new version delivers 2.6-times more air volume at a speed of 568 mph. It also raises air temperature by 70 degrees.

Because of the smaller size the Air Titan 2.0, reportedly, uses 80 percent less fuel and emits 80 percent less carbon dioxide.

Developed by our engineers at the NASCAR R&D Center, Air Titan 2.0 will help us more quickly return to racing, which serves our most important mission -- the enjoyment of our fans,” NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France said. “It’s faster, more agile and eco-friendly. The new Air Titan creates the ultimate win-win-win for our sport, our fans and our environment.”
