Roger L. Miller
Roger L. Miller, 68, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was born on Oct. 29, 1945, in Detroit, Mich., to James Harry and Lillian Ida (Hoffman) Miller.
Roger was a San Antonio police officer for more than 28 years before retiring as a detective. He was a sergeant with the La Vernia Police Department for 10 years, La Vernia city councilman from 2007-09, and a volunteer at the Institute of Texan Cultures.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roger is survived by his wife, Jackie Miller; daughters Debralee Bloemer and husband David, and Stacey Oncale and husband Paul; grandchildren Paige Bloemer, Brayden Bloemer, Kalah Oncale, and Corbin Oncale; sister Beverley Herron; brother Doug Miller; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, March 30, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.
A graveside service was held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the
Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, officiated by Pastor Janet Fluth. Memorial contributions may be made to the La Vernia Lions Club, P.O. Box 291, La Vernia, TX 78121; or to the Christ United Methodist Church of Stockdale, 102 E. Main, Stockdale, TX 78160.
