Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Thelma Lillian Wehman Ehlers, 86, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014. She was born Nov. 10, 1927, in Hobson, Texas, the daughter of Fritz and Lillie Wehman.

She was raised on the family farm in Hobson until her marriage to her husband, Gustav W. Ehlers, on Dec. 16, 1950, whereupon she moved to live the remainder of her life with her husband and children in Karnes City.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gustav; sister Janie Gloor; brother Richard Wehman; and infant son John.

She is survived by her children, Charles Ehlers and wife Lynda of Richardson and Louise Regan and husband David of Falls City; her brother, Roger Wehman; her sister, Louise Fossler and husband Richard; her grandchildren, Jonathon and Travis Ehlers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 30, from 6-8 p.m. in the Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City.

A funeral service was held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home officiated by Pastor Wally Schievelbein.

Interment was held in the Karnes City Cemetery in Karnes City.

Memorial donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 590 S.H. 72, Kenedy, TX 78119.

I remember Thelma. As a kid growing up, I always remembered her, and looked up to her. I admired her grace and beauty. Condolences to the Wehman and Ehlers families.
