FLORESVILLE -- The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office held its annual Sheriff Santa golf tournament March 23, and took a big step toward helping lots of local families at Christmas.

A number of teams showed up for the single-day four-man scramble tournament, and the team of Jesse Gutierrez, Mike Gutierrez, Gary Lee Laughlin, and Jim Burdette took home first-place honors with a score of 54. Also with a score of 54, finishing second, was the team of Tom Garcia, Terry Gawlik, Wesley West, and Alan Baxter. Shane Akin, Blaine Akin, Kyle Cooper, and Lee Hastings scored a 56 to finish third.

Prizes were also awarded for those golfers landing closest to the pin and for the longest drives. Marrie Aldridge was the ladies’ winner of the longest drive, and Dustin Graham took home the honors for the men. Cindy Pruski landed closest to the pin for the ladies, and Gary Lee Laughlin did it for the men.

The Sheriff Santa program will continue to raise money throughout the year and will use it to provide holiday meals and gifts for families in need in Wilson County.
