1922-2014

Mercedez E. Valdez, 92, of Stockdale, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014. He was born Jan. 18, 1922, in La Vernia to Epemenio and Ursula Valdez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Bennie Valdez; two brothers; and seven sisters.

Mercedez is survived by his loving wife, Maria Valdez; daughters Lydia Arredondo, Teresa Smith, and Delia V. Rangel; sons Frank Valdez and Leonard Valdez; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 2, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A graveside service was held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Concrete Cemetery in La Vernia, with Pastor David Gale officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
