Tom Ortmann and Karen Work of Floresville, Texas, are happy to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Karissa Kylene Ortmann, to Brian Richard Smith, the son of Gerald and Susan Smith of San Antonio.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Marilyn Ortmann of McCoy and the late Leonard Ortmann, and Jimmie Work of San Antonio and the late Betty Work.

The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Charles and Gloria Smith, and Mary James of San Antonio and the late William James.

Karissa is a 2006 graduate of Floresville High School and a 2009 and 2010 graduate of Texas A&M University, where she earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in marketing. She currently works for H-E-B as a GM leader in Boerne.

Brian is a 2008 graduate of Lutheran High School and a 2012 graduate of the University of the Incarnate Word, where he triple-majored in English, philosophy, and history. He teaches science, Texas history, and creative writing for grades six through eight at the Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran School. He also coaches the eighth-grade basketball, baseball, and track teams.

The couple plan to exchange vows in May 2014 at Sandy Oaks Ranch in Devine, Texas. They will make their home in San Antonio, Texas.
