On March 27, the Poth One-Act Play competed in San Marcos for the district competition. Tiffany Polasek, Melissa Clark, the cast, and crew all have spent long hours practicing to perfect their show, “Harvey” by Mary Chase.

The crew consists of junior Clayton Jaskinia as the stage manager, senior Isaiah Olivo on lights, junior Sarah Rosenberg on sound, and freshman Austin Sekula as stagehand. The cast includes freshman Alinda Turner as Kelly, junior Allee Bertrand as Veta, senior Sherman Criado as Wilson, senior Cody Martinez as Elwood P. Dowd, sophomore Daniel Soto as Dr. Sanderson, senior Mateo Coronado as Dr. Chumley, freshman Rachel Raabe as Betty, and freshman Savannah Lyssy as Myrtle May.

According to Dramatists.com, the story is about Elwood P. Dowd, who introduces his imaginary friend, Harvey, a 6-1/2-foot rabbit. The play was performed to the student body and to the public March 25.

“We got a lot of laughs at the play,” said Bertrand. “It really boosted our confidence.”

The group made many changes to the play to try and make it the best possible. They had many strong and weak points and hoped the practices would bring out the strong points of their performance.

The group did not advance to regionals. However, a few members took home some awards. Daniel Soto received the All-Star Cast award, Cody Martinez received best actor, and Clayton Jaskinia received the tech crew award.
