Offer condolences


Ruth Ann Johnson Read of La Vernia, Texas, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014. She was born Dec. 5, 1931, in High Point, N.C., to T.S. and Kathleen Johnson.

Ruth married her husband, Mack Read, on Dec. 14, 1957. She was active with the Wilson County Republican Party, serving as precinct judge. After working in several civil service positions, she retired from the Texas National Guard office in Austin. She loved to play golf and read.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 56 years, Mack Read; her son, Kirby Read and wife Cecile of La Vernia; her grandchildren, Dallas Read and Autumn Read Schackert and husband Kyle; great-grandchildren Austin D. Read, Violet Ruth Read, and Sadella M. Schackert; sister Dorothy Perrot and husband George of North Carolina; and her brother, Frank Johnson and wife Barbara of Virginia.

Interment will be held in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nurses In Touch Community Hospice of Floresville or the American Lung Association.
