Polished Edge: Alexander Ludwig of ‘Vikings’ on History
Q: When did you start acting?
A: I knew since I was 9. My mom used to be an actress. She was fantastic in her own right, and I told my parents I wanted to get into the movies. I didn’t realize how lucky I was to have parents that were supportive. It took them a while. And I am so impatient. I stole my mom’s phone and called her agent and asked for a meeting.
Q: How old were you when you decided to take a meeting on your own?
Q: What was your first gig?
A: I booked the first audition I ever went on. It was a Harry Potter toy commercial. It was the best payday I ever had because they gave me the toy.
Q: What was “Hunger Games” like?
A: We all knew it would be a successful movie because the books had exploded. I was an unknown actor, and suddenly people know who you are. They would walk up to me on the street and say, “You’re Cato!” It was a dream come true for me. It put me on the map.
Q: What do did you know about the Vikings before taking the role of Bjorn?
A: I did some research and read Vikings books and read online, but our historian knows everything there is to know about Vikings. The best decision I ever made was working on “Vikings.” God willing, it will continue. This is truly unbelievable.
