Stockdale News: It’s time for golf, tea, watermelons
The last regular meeting of the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce was held March 31 and discussions centered around the upcoming 70th annual Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee.
The Jubilee will kick off this year with the Watermelon Jubilee Golf Tournament Saturday, June 7, at River Bend Golf Club in Floresville. Registration will begin at 11 a.m.; start time will be 1 p.m. Entry fees are $75 per player or $300 per team (or register before June 7 for $280 per team), and the entry fee includes greens fee and cart rental. Mulligans will be $5 per player.
Entry forms are available on our website at www.stockdaletx.org or at Brahma Bullpen in Stockdale. For more information, contact Jesse Vela at 830- 391-4335 or Donald Bennett at 830-391-2467.
Queens Tea, coronation
The annual Former Queens Tea is on Sunday, June 8, from 2-4 p.m. at the Stockdale High School Cafeteria. The outgoing Jubilee and Rodeo courts will present a slideshow of memories from this past year, and it is also a great opportunity to meet the candidates for this year’s Jubilee and Rodeo courts! If you are a former Jubilee or Rodeo queen (or both), please make plans to attend this fun event!
We are still accepting applications to be a part of the 2014 Jubilee and Rodeo courts. If your child is interested in participating, please contact Gennie Rangel at 830-391-3504 or Donna Skloss at 830-391-0226.
Saturday, June 14, will feature the Coronation of Queen Melone LXX and her Court beginning at 7 p.m. in the Stockdale Elementary Cafeteria.
Volleyball, 5K run
The annual Watermelon Jubilee volleyball tournament will also be held June 14 at the Stockdale City Park.
This year’s Jubilee will feature the sixth annual Watermelon Crawl 5K race and Kids Crawl Fun Run Saturday, June 21, and registration is now under way. The Watermelon Crawl will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the Kids Crawl at 9 a.m.
Registration forms can be picked up at Brahma Bullpen in Stockdale or downloaded from our website at www.stockdaletx.org. Participants may also register online at www.athleteguild.com. Early registration is $20 for the Watermelon Crawl and $10 for the Kids Crawl. All participants will receive a T-shirt, and awards will be given to the winner in each age division of the Watermelon Crawl and to all children participating in the Kids Crawl.
Don’t forget about the Watermelon Jubilee Parade on Saturday, June 21. The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m., with judging at 8 a.m. Anyone interested in participating in the parade can download an application from our website or pick one up at City Hall in Stockdale.
As a reminder, if you are interested in having a food, craft, or information booth on the grounds during the Jubilee weekend, please visit our website for entry forms and rules. Prospective vendors may also email firstname.lastname@example.org for information packets and more information.
Now is the time to secure your Jubilee sponsorship slot as well. This is a great way to advertise your business during Jubilee weekend. Our 2014 sponsorship package can be found on our website as well.
The next regular meeting of the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce will be held on Monday, April 28, at 7 p.m. in the offices of the Stockdale Economic Development Corp. Please make plans to attend if you are interested in helping or becoming more involved with any of our activities.
