LA VERNIA -- It was another dominating performance for the La Vernia tennis team last week, as the Bears and Lady Bears earned a district championship, and cleared the way for yet another regional appearance.

In girls singles play, Emma Weber and Kelly Poore proved to be the best, as the Lady Bears finished first and second, respectively. Justin Kvapil finished fourth in boys singles action.

In girls doubles play, Destiny Roath and Haleigh Johnson won gold, while teammates Brooke Gatley and Blanca Alvarado grabbed second-place honors. Paula Watson and Joey Rincon grabbed silver in mixed doubles, while Jessica Miller and Zach Kubena finished third.

In addition to the district title, all of the athletes who finished first or second will advance to the regional tournament, scheduled to be held April 16 in Corpus Christi.
