Falls City bakers win at Karnes County show

Young bakers from the Falls City FFA or 4-H Club entered the 2014 Karnes County Youth Show Baked Foods contest Jan. 17, with nine Falls City participants taking home grand champion honors in senior or junior divisions ranging from sweet breads to pies and cookies. The bakers returned Jan. 18 for the auction, and were given the chance to personally thank the buyers for purchasing their award-winning entries.

Winners include:

•Chase Moczygemba, FFA, Junior champion bar cookies, $3,000

•Rachael Lyssy, FFA, Junior champion candy, $2,000

•Katelyn Dziuk, FFA, Junior champion yeast bread-sweet, $2,400

•Cayden Moy, FFA, Junior champion quick bread or tortillas, $2,700

•Julianne McReynolds, 4-H, Junior champion un-iced cake, $1,500

•Quincey Olenick, FFA, Senior champion specialty cake, $1,600

•Arden Gisler, FFA, Junior champion fruit or nut pie, $1,500

•Jonathan Sekula, FFA, Senior champion yeast bread-non sweet, $2,200

•Kaylyn Pawelek, FFA, junior champion iced cake, $1,500
