This series profiles area organizations that help meet needs in our communities.

Organization: LV Shoestring Stage Productions

What it does: This 501(c)(3) organization, established in 2010, “... was formed for the sole ... purpose of bringing enjoyment, entertainment, and the experience of The Arts to our community,” according to its website,

The group works to promote the arts in Wilson County, and has staged several successful talent shows showcasing local artists and musicians: La Vernia’s Got Talent in 2010, followed by Wilson County’s Got Talent 2011-13. Members also have staged several plays, including this year’s “Faith County,” a comedy, which also included a bake-off and dinner theater presentation.

The organization also sponsors an art contest for high-school students in Wilson County to design the cover of its programs; cash prizes are awarded to the winners. The talent show winners also receive cash prizes.

Background: “We promote talented individuals in our counties by showcasing their artistic abilities,” said Publicity Director Pascalle Bippert. “[music sensation] Austin Mahone made his stage debut in our La Vernia’s Got Talent show in 2010.”

Other notable acts who’ve shared their talents with the group are “Embrace The Moment,” which has performed in San Antonio and Austin; and magician Cody Saunders.

Events, fund-raisers: Most of the funding for the organization comes from admission to its annual talent show in the fall.

How you can help: Help is welcome backstage with productions, set painting and decorations, costume design and assistance, sound and lighting, and assisting production directors, actors, and performers.

Volunteers also are needed as ticket takers, event photographers, ushers, hosts and hostesses, as well as greeters.

You can also support LV Shoestring Stage Productions by attending the group’s productions -- such as the talent show, which is scheduled this year for Nov. 8 in the La Vernia High School Auditorium -- or audition for a part in the talent show or another production.

Contact: For information, visit, visit the group’s Facebook page, or call Publicity Director Pascalle Bippert at 210-413-3900.

Your organization can be featured here by completing the form, available at by clicking on services and choosing “Gift of Self,” or by emailing, including “Gift of Self” in the subject line.
