JoAnn Vollmar Peavler, a resident of La Vernia, Texas, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, April 18, 2014, in the St. Luke Baptist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 69. JoAnn was born to Joe and Dorine (Elley) Vollmar on Jan. 23, 1945, in San Antonio.

She graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1962. She went on to marry Clarence Peavler on June 9, 1963, in San Antonio, and together they raised a family. They later divorced after many years but remained best friends. JoAnn worked for City Public Service for eight years, leaving to become a full-time mother when her daughter Charolette was born. Later she returned to work as an ER clerk at Southeast Baptist Hospital, where she remained for 15 years. She then went on to work at Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, from which she retired in 2009. JoAnn was a member of the Highland Hills Baptist Church and regularly attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in San Antonio. She loved fishing and was well-known as a closet case meteorologist, geologist, and archeologist, constantly collecting fossils and shark teeth. JoAnn was also an avid oil painter. JoAnn was a wonderful mother, said her family.

JoAnn is survived by daughter Charolette Davis and husband Charles; her sons, Stephen Peavler and wife Valerie and Shawn Peavler and wife Kim; grandchildren Cheyenne, Christal, Garrett, Blake, Kaitlyn, Ty, and Madison; her brother, David Vollmar and wife Vicky; and her former husband and friend, Clarence Peavler.

A celebration of JoAnn’s life was held on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. in the St. John Lutheran Church in San Antonio.

A private cremation service was held.
