Beavers win Region IV title


Beavers win Region IV title
Members of the Falls City Beaver track team celebrate their team championship at the Region IV meet last Saturday at Judson High School. Team members are (back, l-r) Tyler Malcolm, Connor Dziuk, Kendall Kanak, Coach Steve Stone, (front) Austen Camber, Justin Twine, Matthew Stulting, Joseph Swierc, Dylan Urbanzyk, and Gabe Jimerson. Conner Jendrusch, Chase Ramsey, Chance Cochran, Ryan Pawelek and Dean Gaskamp are also members of the team.

CONVERSE -- It was a great weekend for the Falls City track and field teams, as the Beavers won the Class 1A Region IV championship, and the Beaverettes finished fourth.

In the boys competition, Tyler Malcolm won the pole vault event with a meet record 14 feet. Justin Twine won both the long jump and 100-meter dash, and Joseph Swierc won the 400-meter dash with a record time of 49.53 sec. The 4x200-meter relay team of Swierc, Connor Dziuk, Matthew Stulting, and Twine won gold with a new record and time of 1:29.20. The Beaver 4x400-meter (mile) relay team of Stulting, Austen Camber, Twine, and Swierc also won gold with a record time of 3:22.04 -- 11.2 seconds better than the previous record held by the 2011 team from Yorktown. Austen Camber grabbed third-place honors and a bronze medal in the 400 meters.

On the girls side, the 4x400-meter relay team of Alyssa Dziuk, Haleigh Blocker, Kaelan Cheatham, and Sara Moore won silver medals with a second-place finish. The 4x200-meter relay team of Cheatham, Hannah Lyssy, Dziuk, and Blocker also finished second to claim silver. Cheatham, Lyssy, Madison Dziuk, and Blocker finished seventh in the 4x100-meter relay.
