AUSTIN -- The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has added Freddie Alaniz, 33, to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list, and a cash reward up to $7,500 is now being offered for information leading to his capture. Alaniz has a violent criminal past, and is wanted for murder, sexual assault of a child and possession of marijuana. All tips are guaranteed to be anonymous.

In February 2006, Alaniz was arrested for aggravated assault in San Antonio for allegedly stabbing a man during a fight, but Alaniz was able to make bail and subsequently fled. The victim later died as a result of his injuries, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Alaniz on the charge of murder in August 2006. Alaniz’s arrest warrant for sexual assault of a child stems from a 2006 incident in Zavala County.

Alaniz has ties to several Texas towns, including La Pryor (Zavala County), George West (Live Oak County) and Beaumont, as well as Veracruz, Mexico. His criminal history includes assault causing bodily injury, resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated. For more information or updates in the event of his arrest, see his wanted bulletin at: http://www.dps.texas.gov/Texas10MostWanted/fugitiveDetails.aspx?id=243.

Alaniz is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds; however, his appearance may have significantly changed (above photo is from 2006). He has tattoos on his left hand, legs and right arm and shoulder.

Texas Crime Stoppers, which is funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division, offers cash rewards to any person who provides information that leads to the arrest of one of the Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitives or sex offenders.

There are four different ways to provide anonymous tips:
•Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
•Text the letters DPS -- followed by your tip -- to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
•Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture.
•Submit a Facebook tip at http://www.facebook.com/texas10mostwanted by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link (under the “About” section).

All calls, texts, e-mails and Facebook messages are anonymous.

DPS investigators work with local law enforcement agencies to select fugitives for the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders lists. You can find the current lists -- with photos -- on the DPS website at http://www.dps.texas.gov/texas10mostwanted/.

Do not attempt to apprehend these fugitives; they are considered armed and dangerous.
