Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1921-2014

Alex “Popo” Dzierzanowski, 92, of St. Hedwig, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. He was born on Dec. 4, 1921, in St. Hedwig to Theodore and Josephine (Miazga) Dzierzanowski.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Margaret Dzierzanowski; son Richard Dzierzanowski; and son-in-law Ronald Kosub. Alex is survived by his children, Joyce Stanush and husband Roger, Diane Pawlik and husband Jeff, Janet Gillaspie and husband Kevin, and Shirley Dzierzanowski; grandchildren Stephanie Grun and husband Matt, Amy Doege and husband Herman, Derek Pawlik, Ashley Preiss and husband Jonathan, and Heather Kosub; a great-grandchild, Bron Alexander Doege; daughter-in-law Shirley Dzierzanowski; and many loving family and friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, May 8, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig.

A funeral Mass was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the church, with the Rev. Ricardo Hernandez officiating.

Interment followed in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery in St. Hedwig.

Memorial contributions may be made by way of Masses or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
