Letter: Thieves at work in Sacred Heart Cemetery
I am very upset and disgusted about what is going on in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. It is supposed to be a sacred place, but it is being disrespected.
I visit there very often. My father passed away 16 months ago, my family and I decorated his grave with different statues and floodlights. Those were gone two months after we laid him to rest. We put up some different lights and those are gone too. This is not new to us because on the same plot we buried an infant grandson 16 years ago, and things have been stolen from his grave also. My family and I are tired of trying to replace everything.
We are not the only ones that this is happening to. I hear of others complaining also. Like the family that had a beautiful rosebush. It was taken with roots and all. Another family lost one of those big basket-shaped cement planters.
And lately it has gotten worse with trash, even tires, rims, and carpets, being thrown on the ground inside the fence even though there is a dumpster. I know because I go visit late at night and I see cars parked inside the cemetery with the lights off and no people around.
What’s going on? What can be done? Maybe it is time to put gates that can be locked at a certain time. And maybe our city police could patrol the area more often if they aren’t already doing it.
Please contact the Floresville police to report when you see things are missing.
