A Wilson County grand jury May 9 handed down 44 indictments. Among those defendants were:

•Courtney Alonzo, 22, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by threat, for allegedly threatening a man and subsequently cutting him with a knife on or about Jan. 5. Alonzo’s bond is set at $7,500.

•Jerry Lee Janysek, 49, of Poth, charged with retaliation for allegedly threatening to shoot Anthony Fish on or about Feb. 12, after Fish allegedly reported the occurrence of a crime. Janysek, whose bond is set at $17,500, is the defendant in another pending case related to Fish being shot July 27, 2013.

•Nicholas Moreno, 27, of Floresville, charged with aggravated assault in connection with an Oct. 31, 2013, incident in which he punched another man, causing him to fall and strike his head on a basketball court. Moreno’s bond is set at $10,000.

•Jeffrey Pratt, 50, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct in a two-count indictment related to a May 7, 2013, incident in which he allegedly threatened a woman and discharged a firearm in her direction. His bond is set at $40,000.

•John David Ray, 26, of Stockdale, charged with deadly conduct following a March 18 road-rage incident on S.H. 97 East, in which officials say he fired a handgun in the direction of an occupied vehicle. His bond is set at $10,000.

I know what it states and these bonds are not excessive. All they need is 10% if they go through a bail bondsman which im sure they will do. So 10% of these ridiculous bonds makes it like I said RIDICULOUS. So perhaps you should ... More ›

Crazy Perhaps you should read the eighth amendment to the US constitution. Bails are not used to keep citizens in jail but to assure court appearance.

The bonds set on these individuals for serious charges are RIDICULOUS. These judges need to set the appropriate bond instead of doing a favor for friends and votes.
