A Mass for all veterans, living and deceased, will be celebrated Sunday, May 25, at 10 a.m. in the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa, followed by a veterans memorial service in the Cestohowa Cemetery.

Stay after to enjoy barbecued beef and sausage plates during the church’s annual picnic. Serving is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; plates are $8 each and can be enjoyed in the air-conditioned parish hall.

Activities during the day will include bingo, a country store, cake stand, refreshments, children’s games, a Polish washer tournament, and an antique tractor display, as well as a big auction at 5 p.m.

The church is located at 300 F.M. 3191. For more information, call the parish office at 830-745-2633.

All should realize that Memorial Day is for honoring those who died while serving in the military. Veterans Day is set aside to honor all who served in the military.

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived." General Patton
