Editorial: Rural hospitals serve vets

News media accounts of the Veterans Administration health-care situation are disheartening and it appears that a great disservice has been done to some of our veterans who have served their country. In light of the evolving situation, Texas rural hospitals and clinics are more than willing to step up and provide top quality health care to these veterans on a local basis if Congress will let them. The rural factor is especially important because a disproportionate number of veterans are from rural areas. In the case of Texas and across the country, 15 percent of the population live in rural areas; however, 40 percent of the veterans are from rural areas. . . .
